What are Clear Braces?

Unlike traditional metal braces using brackets and wires, clear braces use clear aligners to slowly shift the teeth. While they’re worn for a large portion of your day, they can be taken out to eat and do your oral care routine. You’ll change out aligners about every two weeks to continue moving your teeth into the places they should be.

While clear braces are a solid option for many patients, they aren’t made for people with extreme orthodontic issues. You’ll be evaluated by Dr. Siddhi Patel to determine whether or not clear braces can help you meet your cosmetic and health goals. Clear braces are mainly used for things like crooked teeth and teeth gaps, crowded teeth, and under or overbites.

What are the Benefits of Clear Braces?

Many people avoid getting their teeth straightened because they don’t want to deal with the hassle of traditional metal braces. With clear braces, you don’t have to learn new techniques to properly clean your teeth around the brackets and wires. Your normal oral healthcare routine can continue, you just have to take out the aligners. They can be cleaned simply with water and toothpaste.

In addition, you don’t have dietary restrictions like you might with normal braces. You take out the aligners every time you eat, so you don’t have to worry about damaging them with harder foods. The aligners are customized to fit your mouth, so you don’t have to worry about them irritating your gums or other soft tissue.

What’s the Process Like for Getting Clear Braces?

If Dr. Patel determines that you’re a good candidate for clear braces, he’ll then take digital impressions of your teeth. Using this technology, the aligners are made to fit your mouth perfectly. You’ll come back for the initial placement of the first aligners. You wear these about 22 hours a day and change them every two weeks to slowly move your teeth into position.

Throughout the process, we’ll do checkups to make sure you’re progressing as you should. The number of liners you’ll need and the amount of time the treatment takes will depend on the severity of your case. Each person is different, and we make sure you have a personalized treatment plan to fit your exact needs.

The cost is often on par or less than traditional metal braces. You also feel a similar amount or less pressure and pain with clear aligners. This should only be mild discomfort and will only last for a couple of days, usually right after you change to a new set of aligners.
