The use of lasers has greatly enhanced the dental patient experience and offers a treatment option that is less invasive, stimulates a quicker recovery and causes fewer side effects. Dr. Siddhi Patel uses laser dentistry to treat a wide range of soft tissue concerns and problems in our Hilliard dentist office.
What are the benefits of laser dentistry?
Dental lasers can offer key benefits when used to treat soft tissue including:
- Less invasive treatment: dental lasers allow treatment to be precisely targeted and can minimize the impact to surrounding tissue.
- Fewer side effects: with targeted treatment, patients typically experience less swelling and bleeding when treating soft tissue.
- Faster healing times: laser energy stimulates the body’s natural healing process and can foster quicker recovery times.
What can dental lasers treat?
Dental lasers can be used on both hard and soft tissue, treating everything from tooth decay to tongue ties and a gummy smile. Dr. Patel uses a soft tissue laser to treat:
- Tongue ties and lip ties
- Gummy smiles
- Gum disease
- Cold sores
Frenectomies and gingival recontouring can be done in our office with a dental laser instead of an oral surgical procedure that would have been performed elsewhere by a specialist. Dr. Patel will recommend the use of a dental laser when considered appropriate for your specific oral health needs.
Is laser dentistry painful?
A dental laser is less painful than alternative treatment options but can produce mild discomfort and post-treatment swelling. Most patients are comfortable during their procedure with the use of a local anesthetic and over the counter pain medication can alleviate symptoms afterward. Within a day or two most side effects are gone and recovery is well underway. Our office will follow up with you and make recommendations as needed to address any concerns that arise.
