Step One: The Initial Consultation
At your initial consultation, our dentist will thoroughly examine your mouth to determine if you are a candidate for implant dentistry. Most individuals missing teeth are able to receive implants, and you should qualify for treatment as long as your teeth, mouth and supporting bone structure are all healthy. If you have a pre-existing condition, such as bone loss, gum disease or tooth decay, our dentist will require you to receive treatment for that condition prior to receiving a dental implant.
Step Two: Dental Implant Placement
Our dentist will surgically place the implant post in your mouth. This post works to replace the tooth root and will perform the same functions — keeping your teeth stable in your mouth and stimulating the supporting bone so that it remains healthy. The number of implant posts placed will depend on how many teeth you are missing and where those teeth are located.
Step Three: Healing and the Abutment
Once your implant post or posts are placed, there will be a period of healing so that they can integrate and fully fuse with your supporting bone. This process is known as osseointegration and typically takes three to six months. Once the posts have fully fused, our dentist will secure abutments to them in preparation for your implant restoration.
Step Four: Dental Implant Restorations
Your dental implant restorations replace the crown or crowns of the teeth to finish restoring your smile. Depending on how many teeth you are replacing, your implant restoration could be a single crown, a dental bridge or an implant-supported denture. Your restoration will be carefully designed to fit your mouth and smile perfectly and provide you with a beautiful, long-lasting result for your smile.
