When it comes to dental extractions, knowing your options empowers you to make informed decisions about your oral health. Our clinic specializes in two main types of extractions, each tailored to meet specific needs:
Simple Extractions: Removing teeth that are visible above the gum line and do not require surgical intervention. Simple extractions are typically performed under local anesthesia, ensuring a pain-free experience while we gently remove the tooth using specialized tools.
Surgical Extractions: Reserved for more complex situations, surgical extractions involve teeth that have not fully emerged through the gum line or have broken off at the gum level. This procedure may be necessary for impacted wisdom teeth or severely damaged teeth and is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation options available for maximum comfort.

Look out for persistent pain, swelling, difficulty chewing, or visible damage to the tooth. Additionally, overcrowding or an impacted wisdom tooth can also necessitate an extraction. Our team is here to assess your symptoms and recommend the best course of action.
Preparation is key for a smooth experience. Unless undergoing sedation we advise eating a light meal one hour before your scheduled procedure. If sedation is involved you will be advised to stop eating the night before. Also, arrange for someone to drive you to/from if sedation is involved.
Recovery varies by individual but generally spans from a few days to one week for simple extractions and slightly longer for surgical ones. We'll provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure your healing process is as quick and comfortable as possible.
Post-extraction care includes dietary adjustments initially; we recommend soft foods like yogurt or soup during the first 24-48 hours and suggest avoiding hot beverages or using straws which could disturb clot formation—a crucial part of healing.
Navigating insurance coverage can seem daunting, but we're here to help simplify it for you. Many dental insurance plans do offer coverage for extractions, particularly when deemed medically necessary. However, policies and benefits vary widely among providers. We encourage you to reach out to your insurer directly for specific details about your coverage, and our office is more than happy to provide any documentation or assistance needed to understand your benefits.
