Sedation Dentistry Options

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas," is a mild sedative that offers a relaxed state during dental procedures. Administered through a mask placed over the nose, it allows patients to remain fully conscious and responsive but significantly reduces anxiety and discomfort. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly after the mask is removed, making it possible for patients to drive themselves home post-treatment.

IV sedation

IV (Intravenous) Sedation involves administering sedative drugs directly into the bloodstream through an IV line, offering deep relaxation during dental procedures. It's highly effective for managing severe anxiety and allowing complex or multiple treatments in one visit comfortably. With IV sedation, you'll have little-to-no memory of the procedure afterward—feeling as though you've slept through your treatment—and will need someone to accompany you home due to its lasting effects beyond your office visit.

Oral Sedatives

Oral sedatives are prescribed medications taken orally before your dental appointment. They produce a moderate level of sedation, helping patients feel more at ease and comfortable while still being awake. This option is ideal for those with moderate anxiety about dental procedures or those undergoing longer treatments. Patients will require transportation arrangements since the lingering effects may impair their ability to safely drive following their appointment.
